The connections can be information or goods and services. This is shown through various methods and indicators such as food, internet, phone, trade and more.The more a person uses a certain method, the more they are connected to the wider community.

The graph shows that Non Stated contain the majority of students, as of the 2011 Census. The Government Primary schools contain the most specified students, while other has the least. The other education systems are all quite varied and Pre-schools, Non-government primary schools and non-government secondary schools all have under 2000 students.

Cultural Interests and Activities

A) Riverway and Riverway Arts Centre.

Riverway is a river based area with swimming lagoons, the Tony Ireland Stadium and the Riverway Arts Centre.It was created for Townsville residents to have a good place to enjoy outdoor living.

B) Castle Hill

Castle Hill is one of the major landforms and tourist sights of Townsville. Castle Hill is home to 'The Saint' which was painted in 1962 by some university students as a prank. Castle Hill also has the Goat Track, a walking track up to the top of the hill.

C) Murray Sporting Complex
Murray Sporting Complex contains many different sports fields/courts and caters for the sporting community of Townsville.

D) The Strand
The Strand is a long, beautiful beach and is one of Townsville's most popular tourist attractions.

E) Civic Theatre
The Civic Theatre is Townsville's main theatre and is used by many different communities within Townsville such as schools for important events, and acting companies when performing.

F) Palleranda
Palleranda is another of Townsville's beaches and is a popular spot for parasailing and taking pets.

G) Magnetic Island
Magnetic Island is a large island off the coast of Townville. It is a popular holiday destination for travellers and locals alike. It contains many walking tracks and beautiful beaches.

H) James Cook University

James Cook University, or JCU as it's known, is Townsville's only university.

Population

As shown, Townsville has a population of 174 462 people (as of the 2011 census) with over 50% being female.

The chart shows that most residents of Townsville are between the ages of 0 and 64.

The population of Townsville is 174 462 with just over half being female. The majority of residents are from 0 - 64 years old. Townsville's population make up 4.026% of Queensland's total population and 0.804% of Australia's total.

Aboriginal Languages and Groups

There are many different regions and tribes of Aboriginal people in Australia (shown in the previous image).

Despite there being many different Aboriginal tribes throughout Australia, only 2.5% of the Australian population (as of 30th June, 2006) is Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The groups found in the Towsville area are the Bindal and Wulgurukaba peoples.

The traditional custodians speak the Birrigubba language. An important symbol for the Bindal people is a shooting star because they believe that the place or direction indicated danger from that direction. The Binal people call their country Thul Garrie Waja.

the Wulgurukaba people call their country Currumbilbarra. It means canoe people and important symbol for them is the carpet snake.

Townsville's Climate

In Townsville, Summer is from December to Februrary. The wet season is in summer while winter is in hte middle of the year.
The graph shows that rainfall was quite high in the earlier months of the year where as there was very little in the middle of the year but rising again at the end.
Temperature was quite high in the earlier and later months but dropped rather significantly in the middle months with a wider temperature range.
This means that the climate in townsville is quite a warm one, often with lots of humidity. In Winter, Townsville doesn't get too cold While in Summer, it can be brutally hot.

Landform Features of Townsville

A - The Strand (Coastline)

The Strand is one of Townsville's main beaches, along with Palleranda and Rowes Bay. They form the natural coastline of Townsville. Although they have been improved by humans, such as sand being replaced at the Strand after the 2011 cyclone, Yasi, they are still major natural landforms of Townsville.

B - Castle Hill

Castle Hill is the most coastal Townsville hill and has a trach for both driving and walking up.

C - Magnetic Island

Magnetic Island, or 'Maggie' as it's known by locals, is just off the coast near Townsville. There are ferry's and barges you can take to get to the island.

D - Mount Louisa

E - Mount Stuart

Mount Stuart is home to the Townsville towers.

F - Ross River

The Ross River runs through Townville and us used for recreational activities such as rowing.

Relative and Absolute Location of Townsville

Relative Location
Townsville is located in Northern Queensland, relatively half-way between Cairns and Mackay, about 300 kilometers from each. It is on the Eastern Coast of Australia.
